San Diego, CA, USA, 4-1-2007

Route: Los Angeles - San Diego
I left Los Angeles quite early the 4´th and traveled to San Diego. Here I was going to meet Mike that was going to help me to replace the balance lever (the doohickey). To get down there I used freeway number five. This was my first real experience with american freeways, and I have to admit that the americans can make roads. I had been told that it would take almost two hours to get to San Diego from Los Angeles, but I think I used around three.

I had no problems finding Mikes machine shop and we started working on the bike at once. Both the balance lever and the spring was broken when we opened Scotty. We tried to find the pieces that was broken and soon found the spring and the broken spring part, but the broken parts of the balance lever we could not find. We therefore open the right side of Scotty to and looked for the missing part, but we could not find it even dough we searched for almost one and a half hour. We replaced both the broken parts with the replacement parts that Mike produces. Then we changed the oil filter and the engine oil. But we did not stop there. Mike is a person that want to make sure that everything is ok s we continued with adjusting the valves, refilled the battery with water, checked the radiater fluid, adjusted the clutch and then it started getting a bit late. We naturally did not do everything without breaks. We had a big mexican lunch at a resturant close to where Mike worked and we also delivered Mike´s BMW to the dealer for repair.

Since it was going to rain that evening Mike asked me if I was interested in staying the night at his and Genewa´s place and travel the next morning. I happily accepted that kind offer and then Mike, Genewa and I went to a lockal dance bar and ate dinner.

The next day we vere up early and went to Mike´s work and upgraded different screws on the bars and checked different nuts.

I had and still have a bad concience about keeping Mike from his job the whole day and I hope that I can repay him some time. When we worked on Scotty Mike explained what the different things was and I have to admit that during one day working with Mike I have learned extremly much about bikes and this knowledge I think will be helpful on the journey south.
