Route: San Diego - Mexicali - San Louis
I left Mikes place around 10 and headed east. I plan to go south the Mexican mainland and therefore tought that it would be smart to go East along the border in USA. The trip from San Diego to Calexico is just beautiful. The freeway eight goes through desert landscape and reached an altitude of 4000 feets. It is like riding through an western movie,
and I almost waited to see indinans on horse around every bend. After the mountains is a crossing of a desert. When I got down it looked like it was smog, but I soon understood that it was sand in the air due to the strong wind. The was actually so strong that it forced my to move my weight over aginst the wind and lean the bike against it. It must have been looking funny for the cars that came behind me, but I managed to keep the speed up, since the passing of trucks was a very unconfortable experience due to the rapid change in wind direction.
At the border crossing in Calexico I was so fortunante that I met a guy that had been traveling back and forth over the border several times that helped me with finding the imigration office and the office for registration of Scotty. It did actually not take so long to cross the border but it is not much help go get from the people working at the border. Then I headed further east. I got to San Louise just before 5 and found a nice motel where I could park Scotty just outside my window. I have now been eating a better dinner (duck) and will soon go to bed.
The area I have been traveling in today is very windy and sandy, and the sand is very fine grained so it penetrates everywhere. I have had all my vents in the helmet closed the whole day but still my eyes got very sandy. Hopfully it will not be that windy tomorrow.
